In 2020, the Faculty Senate adopted Student Learning Experience (SLE) Survey to replace the eSET as the standard.  In early 2021, the Faculty Senate will be determining the new rules for inclusion of SLE data in the P&T Vita. Once that determination has been published, we will modify Faculty Success (formerly DM) to to reflect the final changes.

In January 2019, OSU completed an integration with Banner, Student Evaluation of Teaching (eSET) and Faculty Success that pushed all historical records of courses taught and associated eSET scores into the Faculty Success Scheduled Teaching screen.  Faculty are encouraged to enhance their existing Scheduled Teaching records using the fields they can write to.

NOTE: All pandemic remote teaching terms have had their SLE (eSET) data removed from FS per Faculty Senate.

General rules for this integration

  • FS Scheduled Teaching records are created for anyone who is assigned in Banner at least 1% of course responsibilities. A FS record will not be created for an instructor with 1% responsibility listed in Banner.
  • All variable credit courses have a “V” in the Number of Credit Hours field.
  • Course enrollment must be greater than 0 for a record to be created in FS.
  • Fields marked as read-only are populated from Banner or SLE. Any corrections must be made in the system of record and will display after the following term’s data load.
  • There are a number of fields which faculty can use to enhance their record keeping in support of the promotion process.
  • Not all courses qualify for Student Evaluation of Teaching. If OSU’s SLE system has matching course and instructor information, the data will be merged into the FS Scheduled Teaching record.
  • The job to populate data from Banner to Faculty Success runs on the second Friday of each new term.  This job will populate data for the previous three terms to pickup new records from the last term and any changes from the two previous terms.

FAQs

Why can't I create a new record?

New records are created approximately 2 weeks after each term is complete.  There are two processes that run.

What do I do if the scheduled teaching record in FS isn't correct?

If you feel the FS Scheduled Teaching records are incorrect after a quarterly update, please work with your departmental support staff to ensure the records are correct in Banner.  All records must be fixed in the system of record, Banner.  Any changes in Banner will be reflected in FS after the next term export of data.  You have up to 1 year to make changes in Banner that will be reflected to FS the quarter after the record is fixed.

If a new college or unit comes onboard to FS, can our historical records also be loaded?

Yes. Please coordinate with your FS Administrator for this.

Can faculty edit their Scheduled Teaching records?

Faculty may edit and enhance the existing Scheduled Teaching records.  Any edits will be preserved in the quarterly update process. We encourage faculty to document information that is not collected anywhere else that may benefit them during the promotion process.

How do I get the courses I taught at another institution into Faculty Success?

Please work with your FS Administrator to populate this excel template allowing us to import teaching records from another institution.

What if SLE standards change?

If university Student Evaluation of Teaching standards change, Faculty Success reporting will be modified accordingly.
